cliche #231
..so these two 110 story buildings have huge airplanes flown into them..then they collapse..covering the entire area in debris..thousands die..tens of thousands are running around...and they find this policeman to interview..
"I've never seen anything like this..in my 10 years in the force.."
..so this big huge highway bridge collapses..sending dozens of cars, trucks and buses hurtling into the Mississippee River..and theres this Medic..saying..
"I don't think I've ever seen anything like this.."
hmm u sure bout that mista?..
Sometimes I wonder if we come pre-programmed with hundreds of cliches..

Well, there's a very good reason WHY they are cliches...
Sometimes we feel like we have to say something- and the enormity of the event is so overwhelming and overpowering so all we can do is helplessly protest, "I don't think I've ever seen anything like this."
Sure it's inane and doesn't add more meaning, but it's something...which is necessary when one has absolutely no idea how to react.
you know what they say... lol
Around the World in 80 Clichés ;)
"May you live up to 120."
"That's the cutest baby / bride ever!"
"Life's too short."
"He died before his time."
"Wish we'd already met years ago."
"You never know."
"Whatever it takes."
"Gimme a break."
Just to mention a few - everyday conversation is full of clichés and banalities.
Intersting enough I noticed how similar wew the responses to the 7/7 teror attacks in London to what I witnessed in Israel.
I think we are programmed into these ready made phrases, we heard them once, they left their impact and they pop out when we stumble in a similar situation.
that's too cliche...

Fashionista - The "live until 120" isn't necessarily a cliche; it's a blessing to live as long as Moses did...

Fashionista - "almost"? C'mon...you wound me!:)

Cliché's a French loan word that can refer to situations, social structures and expressions alike. It includes banalities, platitudes, commonplace statements, flat characters etc.
