[cAncEr]

Every once in awhile..
I'll come across...this
Researchers close to
finding cure
Cure..for [cancer]
or something like that..
and we breathe..
maybe..?

but then I think

this carefreeclosedhearted
generation..of mocking anything
serious..and constricting..
this generation..
..of 7 lb steak
and shaindy
dot commm
this silly group..of
frumcultured..
frivolous..dont tell
ME what to do
vosizneias commenters
that we are
yea
Theres still one word
that strikes FEAR..
one C wo A rd N that pen C etra E tes R
the most calloused soul..
that interrupts the dizzying
circle..of dancing hentelech..
and swirls black..
...in the middle

so...god help us
if that disappears

Not sure what the hoopla is all about.

The reason why God shrunk our life expectancy by about 800 after 1,000 years from creation is because a world where there is no fear of death an illness is a world gone amok.
Say what you want but fear..is good for us...and there isnt much that strikes fear in us these days..so yes..it serves a very important function.

and comments that are not civil will be deleted.

Sorry you felt my comment was not civil. I apologize for the crudeness, but that was my honest gut reaction. Let me refine it by saying I think your post is an odor emitting assemblage of pony poop. (BTW, I happen to be on my way to Sloan Kettering to visit a loved one, so you can forgive my bluntness)

I forgive your bluntness.
I'm one who has been touched many times over by cancer and I still feel it serves a very important function...in instilling fear..(and when I say cancer I mean..any disease that strikes in a way that makes you feel helpless..) in a numb generation that generally likes to run away from fear.

Geez! Everything has a "function", so whats the point? Osama has a function. He instills "fear", so what? Eradicating that barefoot towelheaded monster would be a bad thing too? You are not stupid. Can you admit you are off base?

Theres nothing to be off base about..
I'm just expressing an abstract thought I had while reading an article. It's not an absolute. There are no absolutes. There's a part of me that wants it eradicated..but another that thinks that on another level that might be bad for us.
And this poem captures that...and THAT is an absolute..

Yes...fear is a good thing in an era of the self-important and fearless.

But...what do we do with our fear....? Does it serve to bring us Closer...?

24 hours later... I was pretty sore at you when I read your poem yesterday. But now I have better perspective. I read it again. I still don't agree, but I think the thought you are provoking is valid. deep, in fact. And you have that verbal flair that is unassailable. So, I must commend you for it. And thank you. Creative writing is supposed to provoke, and give fresh perspective. And you definitely didnt fall short on that order. Keep it comin'....
