Faces at the window...

From old blog. Not G rated.

Empty room..
Gaudy
Big
Haughty
She stands over her precious
Protecting her
Watching over
Windows all around
Not a sound
Faces pressed to the pane
Insane
Intense gazes
Siblings..Grandparents..Principals..Teachers..Rebbeim
Faces..
Presence...
The room..the air
Thick
Unsafe..Unfit
For your little lungs..
Must shield her
Don’t fight..
Don’t fight it..
It worked for your sisters
Shhh Stop.....
Its for your good..
Mommy stop..I can’t breathe
Why are you so difficult..?
Cant you see I’m protecting you..?
Ziesskeit..
Look at this air..
Stop..
Just a little more...
shhh
All those eyes..
Thru the dusty air..
struggling
Mommy...stop...you’re hurting me..
YOU’re sMOTHERing me...
Shhhh...stop
Shhh..
Anxiously..oh Hashem....
Pinning her...
please just a few more minutes
...years
Mom STOP
I Can’t F___ING Breathe

Gasp

The eyes disappear
One by one..
Shaking their heads..
Leaving
Smudge marks on the pane
The pain
Exhaustion..

Just go

In disgust...

a mothers love can be smothering at times but a mothers love is also the most genuine- its when we are adults that we long for a mothers"smothering" aka a mothers shelter. thank god everyday for the gift of your mother- make sure you let her know how much you appreciate her and cherish each moment you have her... and remember your kids might think you are smothering them too- smile thank god you too have the privledge of being someones smothering mommy p.s im not saying being smothered by your mommy is fun while its happening but thought id let you view it through my eyes

i dont get whats not to understand?!

gave me chills.. just like it did the first time..
so much pressure to be what they want.. what they need..
suffocating, pushing out, turning off..those that need protecting and reassurance and acceptance..

Explanation.
Parents are under so much outside pressure to cookie cut and raise their children to the exacnt model given...and the pressure is so real and difficult to resist..but it doesnt work for everyone..but the people at the window..fail to realize this and keep up the pressure..and the mother is so torn...and thinks..just a few more years...just until she finds a good shidduch....and the daighter senses this...and struggles...and comes to hate the system..and parent..until she breaks..and does something drastic...at which point..the faces dissapear...and the child is deemed helpless...

oh well

i love it. i love the explanation. like art history, the background information is just as important in viewing the piece as the painting itself!!!

btw: i didn't imagine that it was autobiographical in any way. but, this is brilliant social commentary for sure. bravo! well said!

Besides, 'David' wouldn't be my top pick for a daughter's name ;)

Brilliant piece though; even I as a non-religious person can relate to it very well.
